The CMC Rising Stars Recognition is the industry’s premier award for outstanding advertising professionals age 35 and under. This is a way for our industry to recognize young professionals who are making a significant impact on the industry through their leadership, career achievements and personal qualities, which also inspire others to excel.
The awards took place during the CMC Annual Conference from June 4-6 at the Loews Hollywood Hotel in Los Angeles, CA.
RISING STARS CLASS OF 2018
Four young executives were inducted as the Rising Stars Class of 2018
Gabriel Ferrer, associate creative director, Alma
Gabriel Ferrer is an Associate Creative Director, with experience developing creative ideas for brands including State Farm, McDonald’s, Clorox, Netflix, JetBlue, Google and Barnes and Noble. Gabriel started his career in advertising younger than most, interning at just 21 years old. When he moved back to Miami, Gabriel joined the multicultural agency ALMA as a Senior Copywriter. He quickly became familiar with the agency’s brands and even helped earn new business in the general market, multicultural and global markets for the agency. In 2016, Ferrer was awarded a Cannes Lion for his work. In three years, he was promoted to Associate Creative Director and was also named CCCCO (Co Culture Club Chief Creative Officer) to develop internal team-building events for the whole agency.
Anita Handson, account director, Captura Group
Anita Handson started her career in advertising 10 years with Humetrex as a marketing assistant, where she worked her way up the ladder to a Product Manager within just two years. She then proceeded to return to school to study web design at the Art Institute of San Diego which then launched her into her current career focus of account management. Anita has been with Captura Group for seven years and has continuously brought passion about the Hispanic market to her clients with tangible results. Anita has risen from an account manager to an account director during her tenure. Her career highlights include working with brands such as: POND’s Rejuveness, E&J Gallo Winery, and Cheez-It, using a culture-first approach to leverage the brands’ cultural identities.
Marisol Peláez, director of multicultural public relations, CoNecs North America
Marisol Peláez has been a public relations professional with CoNecs North America (formerly Urias Communications) for over five years, starting as a public relations executive. Currently, she works as the Director of Multicultural Public Relations for the agency which specializes in helping leading brands develop integrated communications strategies, focused in the U.S. Hispanic market. In this role, Marisol develops public relations plans and manages media relations for diverse clients including: Dignity Health, Barrow Neurological Institute, Arizona Public Service, Phoenix Zoo, Recyclebank, Desert Botanical Garden, and others. She does an outstanding job at promoting her clients within the Hispanic market by offering a full understanding of the culture, consumer behaviors, traditions and language.
